I recently became a preferred vendor at the University Club in San Francisco, California and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate this special relationship than with Valerie and Adam's amazing, big city, San Francisco wedding. I had the honor to document their day with my brother-in-law Adrian Jon Vandewater.
This wedding began on a foggy day in my favorite city in the world. We arrived at the University Club and took in the beginning of this beautiful day. We met Valerie at her hotel and as soon as we walked in you could feel the love and excitement spinning through the room with laughter in the background. One of my favorite memories was when Valerie looked at her wedding dress before putting it on, her eyes were full of emotion and tears. In a room full of Valerie's dearest friends, we felt her open and joyful heart in this moment. After she put on her dress the day truly began, as it spun with the momentum of love, before we knew it the ceremony was about to begin. Before the ceremony, Valerie and Adam wanted to do a first touch rather than a first look. They held hands and shared special words together in a quiet space where they both took deep breaths as their eyes filled with tears of joy. This was one of the most special "first looks" I've ever been a part of. I wish I had done this at my own wedding. Beautiful idea Valerie and Adam.
The ceremony was perfect with candles, acoustic guitar and a room filled with loved ones. I have many favorite moments at weddings but one that always takes my breath away is when the bride and groom meet eyes down the aisle, when the bride sees her loved ones for the first time and the room lovingly looks at the beautiful bride. This moment moves in slow motion for me and I can't help but remember the feeling of seeing my husband for the first time as I walked down the aisle. Every step feels like a million yet the collection of steps taken down the aisle also feels like one giant leap. Valerie looked into Adam's eyes and before we knew it they were kissing as husband and wife.
The reception began with joyous cheers and high fives as Valerie and Adam were announced. I loved seeing these two shine with light as they greeted each of their honored guests. One of my favorite parts of the reception was Valerie's father's speech. He made everyone cry, laugh and smile with light. A father's love for his daughter is something truly special!
The night closed with some of the best dancing I've seen at a wedding. There was swing dancing, cheek to cheek singing and a few little ones who stole the show.
Thank you Valerie and Adam for asking for me to be a part of your beautiful day. Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness.
Love and Light,
Heather
